Evolving Into Simplicity

Human consciousness is ever-evolvin. Actually everything is always evolving, and, interestingly, evolution is not toward more complexity as we might suspect but toward simplicity. That is why our souls thirst or simplicity, in their wisdom, they know that love and spirit are simple.

While taling to Debra, a recently widowed friend, I was struck by her answer to my question, "Were the last few weeks of Todd's illness very dificult for your family?" Surprisingly, she answered, "No. By then we all new that he would die, and we lived moment-to-moment. Our life was trimmed down to the simplest things - a time smile, a drink of water, flashes of feel heart connection through feeling or even a little talking. It was the simplest and the sweetest time of my life." WOW!

Debra's comments resonated with an almost wordless thirst within me. Simplicity. Sweetness. Time for reflection and relating. Umm... The upshot of that conversation is a deep commitment on my part to trim the unneccessary and the unwanted rom my lie wihtout there having to be a crises to provoke it, and to get progressively better at discerning when less is more. Sort of a continous soul garage sale.

Right now, gently, and with great compassion, take a deep breath and look at your calendar for the next week. If it is more crowded than you feel comfortable with, ponder what activities and obligations may be unnecessary or unwanted. Without judgement, ask yourself if you are an 'automatic yes'er." Do you say yes even when you feel no?

Are you thirsty for the solace of simplicity? If so, tuck in your heart and mind and promise to evolve into more simplicity. Start by eliminating just one tiny or tremendous thing that feels unnecessary or unwanted. Simplicity can be simply and soulfully wonderful....
